How To Decide What Digital Skill To Learn.

I’ve realised that alot of people are confused about the right skill they need to develop.

For certain reasons, it’s not abnormal because there are more than one gillion digital skills to learn.

If you’re in this situation, I’d like to help you out.

How do you decide the right skill to learn?

  • Available need or opportunity
  • Personal preference or interest or passion
  • Your academic background

If you are on social media, and you are not learning, not laughing, not being inspired or not networking, then you are using it wrong.

Available need or opportunity

The latest buzz on the internet is the Blockchain technology.

I was part of the planning committee for a Blockchain event organised by Blockchain Hub Africa in Nigeria few weeks ago.

After the event, I realised that the space is still very virgin. There’s a pool of need of talent to work on projects and manage communities.

That’s an example of a space where there’s a huge need for talents with the right skills.

You can see some of those skills here.

Personal preference or interest or passion

This is another way to decide on what digital skill you want to learn.

Perhaps, you started using the computer when you were 12 and you loved the games you played there. And you’re seeing yourself becoming a Game Designer, then go ahead.

While you decide on this, make sure to look out for the opportunity out there and then how you can learn about it.

These are equally important.

Your academic background

I don’t understand why alot of students graduate from college or university and don’t have any skill they’ve learnt from their course of study.

In fact, I’d advice students t always ask this question: what digital skill can I learn in this my area of study?

You can decide to be a master in rendering if you study Architecture.

That will require you to go and learn rending softwares like Lumion, V-ray, Blender…

It is very important for everyone to have a digital skill in this age. There are so many reasons for that.

So, the questions for you to answer might be these:

  • Where do I see the need for a particular digital skill?
  • What digital skill do I have flare for?
  • For those in school, what digital skill can I learn in my course?
