That’s the new way I address people who ask me about a job all the time.
Please don’t get me wrong.
Having a job is good. But the most important question to ask is this, what makes you fit for the job you’re looking for?
Simple.
You’ll discover that it’s the skills you have that qualifies you. (Some situations require more…)
Yes, your skills are your qualification for getting a job legitimately.
Let’s also see this…
The two major reasons most persons who want a job don’t have a job are these:
- They don’t have a good enough skill to command a good job.
- If they do, they’ve have not marketed their skill enough.
Back to the job case…
My advice is this… instead of looking for a job, go and learn a skill especially a digital skill so that you can have what organizations are looking for – for remote and physical work opportunities.
Or after learning the skill, you can go ahead and use it as a freelancer… then when any job opportunity comes in, for you to take it, must be juicy in terms of growth and financial reward.
So, let me ask,
- What skills do you have? (If you don’t have any, go and learn one.)
- If you have a skill, how good are you with that skill? (If you’re not good at it, go and improve yourself.)
- If you’re good at it, who needs that skills? (If you don’t know the people and organizations that need the skill you have, you’ll be frustrating yourself. You need to find them. But to find them, you have to answer this other question…)
- What problem does my skill solve? (If you know, you can easily look for those who need it.)
- If you know those who need it, how can you be in front of them? What websites do they visit? Have you applied to work for them? Have you sent proposals? What have you done to make sure you’re in front of them? From Facebook to an Instagram and other methods…
The next question is…
- Do you have projects you’ve carried out with that skill so that they become proof of your proficiency? (This is what saved me when I started my first blog about three years ago. I used that blog as proof to write for an Edtech company.)
If you follow these steps and stay on it without losing sight, you’ll either find a job, with the skill you have, that will pay you good or you turn that skill to a business that you can begin to reach out to business owners to serve them.
