I’ve come across a lot of persons who said that they need a job.
But then when they can’t find a job, they feel hopeless…
… yet, these same people have good skills they can use to make money.
Then, why are they not making money from their skills?
No idea of how to market their skills. Simple.
Marketing your skill will make you visible to those who need your skill. So in this world, I’ll tell you how to market your skill.
First of all, why do you need to market your skill?
- Saturation
Before now, you can wake up any day and start anything and you’re good to go.
However, there’s a limitless option out there for people to choose from.
Therefore, if you don’t market your skill, you’ll not be visible.
- Branding
Earlier than now, this was preserved for companies.
But the advent of the internet and tech revolution has made it mandatory for individuals to be involved in marketing and branding.
Once you have something to offer, it means you must learn how to market so that you can build a brand for yourself.
- Increased Traffic
You either wait for customers to find you or you go and find your customers.
Apart from being good at what you do, marketing your skill will make customers come to you and not just you going to them.
Because you’re good and then they see it, which is marketing, they have no other option than to call you.
So let’s imagine I have developed Digital Marketing skills and am an expert with Facebook Marketing.
The ultimate question then is this…
How do I market my skill?
- What problem can my skill solve?
It starts here. If you don’t know this, you’ve missed it.
Stop telling people I am the best chef. Tell them I cook the meal that will make your immune system revitalize.
Your skill is focused on the customer not your uniqueness per se.
For my digital marketing skill, the problem it can solve is this when stated: I solve the problem of little or no sales.
- Who has this problem?
Your audience or your target. You need to know who has the problem.
- Where are they?
From Facebook to Instagram to Snapchat to YouTube to Pinterest to WhatsApp…
Knowing where your target market is will make sure you don’t water your energy targeting people that don’t need what you’re selling.
- How can I communicate with them?
Depending on the platform they are at and your preferred medium of expression, you can communicate with them via written content or video kind of content or any other means.
The most important goal here is to communicate and show them that you care.
- How do I sell to them?
You can see that selling is coming in now. And is just one step in the process.
A lot of us just jump into selling without understanding who we’re selling to.
If you’ve implemented the above steps, you’d have started getting insight into what makes them tick.
This should be your most trusted source of how to sell to your client and not what someone is saying on a blog.
Then you can use any of these types of selling to sell to them.
As you do this make sure you keep doing these two things:
- Listening to your audience.
- Keep learning that skill and how to market better.
